EDELWIESS FLOWERS SOUVENIR CRYSTAL REVERSED-ETCHED PAPERWEIGHT 9503 148 444
This line was distinct from the main faceted crystal figurine lines focusing instead of geographical memorabilia and corporate / tourism gifts
Production era is the late 1980's to the mid 1990s
This paperweight utilizes a reversed carving technique and the design is etched into the flat back surface of a thick block of lead crystal, leaving a frosted, hollowed-out image of two edelweiss flowers that appear three dimensional when viewed from the front.
The crystal block features a raw, irregularly faceted and jagged border to mimic a natural slice of Alphine rock or glacial ice.
Daniel Swarovski founded the company Wattens he chose the alpine edelweiss flower as the company's first official logo in 1899.
